Default Welcome professions

Hey,

ive been pve'ing uptill now. But i want to try some of the more advanced pvp formats (RA are gay imo :/). I just dont know what professions i shall level to play pvp.

I didnt like playing my mesmer, too passive-agressive for me. I did however enjoy playing a paragon in pve, i just dont know how it performs in advanced pvp formats? Is it sought-after and a welcome addition to alot of formats?

If not, what are good and sought-after professions with a similar playing style? (Preferably non-gay looking professions-unlike my paragon). Im also considering trying a damage dealing class, since i played a support roll in every mmorpg i played uptill now, but i dont really like linear builds or professions. So any suggestions about non-linear and fun damage builds and profs are also welcome

cheers

You souldn't level anything to play PvP. You should reserve a character slot for a PvP character that may be recreated at will to whatever profession is needed at the moment.

As for "needed classes", talk to whatever group/guild you are playing with and discuss what's needed. If you play TA or GvG that is. If you go the RA way, it's all up to you, naturally.

The only class that is ALWAYS in style is Monk, everything else varies with the meta. This means you need to get good at at least two or three classes.

keep a pvp slot free

Unlock/Buy skill unlock packs

make every skill useable to your pvp chars.
Then look for a decent guild
Wish you best of luck

For TA the meta atm is

Necro (WoD)
Ranger (magebane)
Warrior (KD lock)
Monk (normaly WoH)

Ranger is a tough but really fun proff to play in pvp
Necro is tough as it requires Serious micro
Warrior is fun and kinda easy but your in effect leading your team so you have to know what ur doing
Monk imo is the easiest proff to play and being a good monk goes a long way.

This.

I regret this, since I FORCED myself to level a class I didn't like to PvP later on. Meta keeps changing so from now on, I'll just delete/recreate whenever it's needed.

What?
lol, just don't listen to this dude.
For starting RA (and you should start with RA) consider playing ele or necro, both mainly use bars that are straightforward (Shatterstone\Mind blast ele, wail of doom\soul bind, whatever works in RA nowadays) and don't require much other than understanding your build and it's potential targets (i.e don't use bflash on a monk).
Paragons play out the same but if you want to be somewhat effective with it in RA, roll some damage-focused build (cruel spear works well) because shouts and all that party-wide support isn't very useful in 4vs4 arenas.
I'm talking about RA here because that's really where you should start, hopping into GvG or HA with no pvp experience is not a good idea, pvp is very different from pve.

Paragons have no place in RA, because they are only useful (and at the moment still overruled by Rangers in both utility and damage) in GvG. If you want to do (physical) damage it's either Warrior or Ranger, if you want utility and damage, play Ranger.

Why can't you PvP with a PvE character?

He didn't say you can't, he said the OP shouldn't. (or souldn't lulz)
The OP has said he is new to pvp, therefore its unlikely he has all the right equipment and skills ready. Therefore he should play with a pvp char until he knows what class he likes best. Then he can decide if he wants to spend his cash pimping his pve's

roll a warrior - its the easiest class in the game to learn and the hardest to master.

basically all you have to do is hit stuff, it's pretty basic.

When you get more experience with the game you will learn the 6 w's of hitting stuff.

who
where
when
why
...ok i can only think of 4

Warrior is not the easiest class in the game to learn lol. So many terrible Warriors. Something like Ele or Derv might be best to learn the basics of every PvP format.

ummm.. what? why would you suggest derv? its the same principle as warrior but worse, and doesnt help you learn how to frontline as much

ele takes a lot of game knowledge just to even perform at a mediocre level, who to snare, how to know when to blind etc.

running up and attacking people is by far the simplest mechanic in the game, like i said, its easy to learn/understand and hard to master, which is why its the best for learning the game. There is always something more to learn as a warrior, but its not so complicated that a beginner can't understand what hes supposed to do.

Beginner Warrior is worse than beginner Ele in my opinion. And target selection for the Ele, wouldn't Warrior be just as terrible without good target selection?

Not quite. Poor target choice on a warrior still results in damage if you're smart enough to avoid prot, whereas blinding a monk or snaring a midliner who you don't intend to spike does nothing.
